Meet our Advisory Board

John Gattorna started his professional life as an engineer, and some years later made the life-changing decision to undertake doctoral studies at Cranfield University (UK) in 1975. His original work there, investigating ‘the effects of innovation on channels of distribution’ is still very relevant in today’s omni-channel world. John returned to Australia in 1980, and subsequently held a series of academic appointments at the University of New South Wales and Macquarie University, before founding his specialist consultancy, Gattorna Strategy, focusing on solving marketing and logistics problems. Most of his clients were multi-national companies, headquartered outside Australia. In 1995, John sold his business to Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and started the Andersen Supply Chain Practice in APAC, which he led until 2003. Following his retirement from Accenture, John formed a specialist SC ‘thought leadership’ Firm, Gattorna Alignment, and continued his focus on developing and testing new methodologies to solve complex supply chain problems. He was fortunate to be able to work for sustained periods inside major global organizations such as Ralph Lauren, Schneider Electric, and DHL, effectively using them as his laboratory to test and refine his central methodology, Dynamic Alignment™. John sees his role as one of researching and disseminating new knowledge to the wider global supply chain community. With this in mind, he has conducted numerous webinars and spoken at many conferences over the years, and has been in particular demand since the onset of Covid-19 in early 2020. He has published several highly regarded books, including his latest, co-authored with Deborah Ellis, Transforming Supply Chains (2020), and numerous articles. John currently holds Adjunct Professorships at several universities in Australia and internationally. Since 2012, starting in Singapore, John and his colleagues have conducted an annual series of SC ‘thought leadership’ Retreats in locations such as Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Cape Town, San Francisco, and Sydney, delivering the results of recent research findings to invited audiences. In 2018, John was awarded the CSCMP Distinguished Service Award, and inducted into the CSCMP Hall of Fame for his contribution to the global supply chain field. John also supports several charities, especially where supply chain is a critical component. In this regard, he was the Founding President of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in Australia, and since 2010 has been an Advisor to the IDF Life for a Child Program, which accumulates and distributes insulin to children in under-developed countries. John has a large global SC ‘thought leadership’ community on LinkedIn which he interacts with on a daily basis. Through his ongoing work, it is John’s aim to inspire the next generation of supply chain business executives, to take this relatively young field of scientific management, to a new, higher level in the years ahead. John’s mantra: creating and applying innovative concepts by observing and analyzing best available practice. For more information, visit his website: www.gattornaalignment.com
